Common Lilac is a deciduous shrub or tree with heart shaped green foliage.   The attractive fragrant panicles bloom in spring and can be various colors.  Best flowering with full sun and rich, moist well-drained neutral soils.  

This selection is purple flowering.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  Low Maintenance.  Potential diseases include disease problems including blights, leaf spots, wilts, ringspot virus, and honey fungus.  Powdery mildew does not damage the plant but can seriously affect foliage appearance. Potential pests include scales, borers, leaf miners, thrips, and caterpillars.  The scent may be overpowering for some people with asthma.
