Canadian Hemlock is handsome evergreen conifer tree with a pyramidal habit and drooping branches.  Its soft textured needles hold is color in winter and the small cones hang from the twig tips.  Grows best in moist, well-drained acidic soils.  Grows best in areas with cool summers and intolerant of drought.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  Low maintenance plant. Hemlock wooly adelgid is a major pest. Other potential pests include elongate hemlock scale, hemlock borer, fir flat-headed borer, hemlock looper, hemlock rust mite, hemlock sawfly, bagworms, spider mites, gypsy moths, spruce budworm, spruce leaf miner, and grape scale. Disease problems include leaf blight, cankers, blister and needle rusts, and sapwood rot.
