The Emperor I® Japanese Maple is a medium-sized deciduous tree with an upright, rounded form with delicate, lacy foliage. The leaves emerge in spring with a vibrant red color, which persists throughout the summer, and turns shades of orange or bronze in fall. Grows best in rich, moist, slightly acidic well-drained soils. Prefers full sun in cooler climates, but needs afternoon shade in southern areas.
