Mathilda Gutges Hydrangea is a compact deciduous shrub with a rounded habit and dark green leaves. The large mophead flower clusters bloom on old wood are vividly colored with color that depends on the soil PH - acidic soils produce violet-blue while alkaline soils produce pink, and can be a combination in more neutral soils.  The flowers attract pollinators. Best bloom in partial sun and rich, moist well-drained soils.
